Tucked away in the backroom at the Cherry Street Coffee House on 1st & Seneca is a fun and interactive space dedicated to the kids and parents community. Come join us on Saturday mornings at 10am for Kid’s Cafe. Kids can enjoy a free hot cocoa while indulging in children’s books, toys and their very own chalk wall! This is a great refuge for parents and kids to come together amidst a downtown urban setting. The inspiration behind the kids’ backroom at the Cherry Street Museum: During the mass amount of “snow days” over the winter this year, many of our customers and baristas with kids were stuck without daycare or preschool. This inconvenience presented us with two options: one our barista mommies couldn’t show up for their shifts to stay at home with their babies, or two they would have to bring them to the café. As you can image, they brought their kids to work! The kids didn’t make the best baristas, so we ended up sticking them in the backroom to color and play with toys they brought from home. As customers trickled in, many who were faced with the same dilemma noticed the kids in back having a great “snow day” and decided they too would bring their kids to Cherry Street. After the snow melted and kids returned to their preschools and day cares, the backroom sat dormant, almost giving off the impression that it was waiting for kids’ return. We couldn’t have this, so we decided to embrace the children’s “snow day” phenomenon.
